Odds are just probability with a price tag. Once you can read them, every esports betting market makes sense — and you can spot when a price is longer than a team's real chance. This guide covers the two odds formats you will see at me88, how to turn odds into an implied probability, and how the core markets work with concrete examples from Dota 2, CS2, MLBB and more.
Reading me88 esports odds: decimal vs Malay
Decimal odds
Decimal odds show the total return per unit staked, stake included. At odds of 1.80, a RM10 bet returns RM18 (RM8 profit). At 2.50, RM10 returns RM25. Bigger number, bigger payout, longer underdog.
Malay odds
Malay odds are common in Malaysia and run from -1.00 to +1.00. A positive figure like 0.80 means a RM1 stake wins RM0.80 profit. A negative figure like -0.80 means you risk RM0.80 to win RM1 — with your full stake at risk. Positive Malay odds are underdogs; negative are favourites.
| Selection | Decimal | Malay | Implied probability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heavy favourite | 1.40 | -0.40 | ~71% |
| Slight favourite | 1.80 | -0.80 / 0.80* | ~56% |
| Underdog | 2.50 | 0.67 | ~40% |
*Around even money the sign flips depending on which side is fractionally favoured; treat these as illustrative.
Implied probability — the number that matters
Divide 1 by the decimal odds to get the market's implied chance: 1 ÷ 1.80 = 0.556, or about 56%. If you think a team is genuinely closer to 65% to win, that 1.80 price is value. Betting well is not about picking winners — it is about backing prices that are too long for the true probability.
The core esports betting markets
Moneyline / match winner
The simplest market: back the team to win the match outright, no handicap. It is the best starting point in any title — from an MLBB series to a Dota 2 best-of-three.
Handicap (map and round)
Handicaps level a lopsided match. A map handicap of -1.5 means your team must win by two or more maps; +1.5 means they can drop one map and still land the bet. In round-based titles like CS2, a round handicap (for example -3.5 rounds on a single map) does the same job at map level. The same logic drives map handicaps in Overwatch 2.
Totals (over/under)
Bet on how a series unfolds rather than who wins it — over/under total maps in a series, or total rounds/kills on a map. A best-of-three going the distance hits "over 2.5 maps"; a stomp lands the under.
Props and specials
Game-specific markets add colour: first blood and first Roshan in Dota 2, pistol and knife rounds in CS2, first tower and first dragon in League of Legends, and total goals in EA FC. These reward deep title knowledge.
Outright / futures
Back a team to win an entire event before or during the bracket. Futures on tournaments like The International offer long odds early but tie your stake up until the trophy is lifted.
Putting it together
Read the price, convert it to a probability, compare it to your own honest estimate, and only bet when the price is in your favour. Then pick the market that best expresses your read — moneyline for a clean call, handicap to back a favourite at a better number, totals for a view on how the series flows.
