Qualified Players

The headline name in the 2026 field is Magnus Carlsen, who competes under Team Liquid and returns as the inaugural EWC champion after winning the 2025 event in Riyadh — a result that earned him automatic qualification. Carlsen's dominance in rapid formats makes him the natural favourite, but he arrives with a bigger target on his back.

The stiffest challenge should come from a stacked Team Falcons line-up featuring speed-chess icon Hikaru Nakamura and prodigy Alireza Firouzja — the latter a runner-up in last year's Grand Final. Other confirmed names in the field include Wei Yi, Aravindh Chithambaram, Alexander Grischuk and Denis Lazavik.

With the event under way, full standings and the final bracket will be updated here as the Play-In, group stage and playoffs conclude through 15 August.
